Sleepover allowances apply to pension staff and nurses who are required to sleep at work but are not exclusively equipped with accommodation. For the first time, first-aid caregivers may request first aid. An instrument allowance will be paid to all skilled craftsmen who are required to provide their own commercial instruments. Click here for the pay scales. Salary Increases Support and operational staff receive a 2.5% pay increase for each MEA year. Some employees receive slightly higher increases – Levels 2 and 3 of maintenance and basic staff, and some child care staff classifications. The UNION considers that the increase in wages is a good result for members in the current economic context of low inflation. BACKPAY The teacher-MEA expressly provides that the difference between the phrase MEA 2017 and the actual rate that the teacher actually receives during this period (i.e. the additional payment) must be paid as soon as possible after the start of the new MEA. Although support staff are not as specific, they indicate that the 2.5% salary increase will apply from February 1, 2017, and we hope that schools will not treat support staff with less generosity than teachers in terms of additional payment. ORDINARY HOURS AND SHIFT PENALTIES Finally, the purpose of innovation grants is to promote experimentation – a new look at the normal way of doing things – to improve outcomes for children, employees and parents throughout the association.
In 2015, two Innovation Scholarships were awarded to test an Excel (EXpert, Collaborative Learning) system that could give students access to experienced teachers from across the association, regardless of the school they attend, as well as the implementation of MinecraftEDU in the Grade 7 classroom at Swan Christian College. During the year, two new enterprise agreements were successfully negotiated and agreed with employees. The SCEA HR team provided advisory services to other organizations during the negotiations of the agreement. The multi-company agreement reached on 23 March 2017 to support staff at NSW Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2017 will also begin on 30 March 2017. The Union thanks the members for their patience in waiting for the approval of the agreements. This year, the human resources department identified the recruitment process as an area of continuous improvement, which will be further streamlined with the launch of online applications. Junior rates have been modified to pay for fewer classifications. IMPLEMENTATION AT YOUR SCHOOL The aspiring Christian Educator Scholarship is a one-year scholarship for students in the final year of their degree.
In addition to a financial reward, tutoring and internships, recipients receive conference fees to participate in two WA Christian Education conferences. Three scholarships for future Christian educators (ACE) were awarded in 2015 to senior students. Each recipient completed at least one of their internships at an SCEA school. Three of the seven CEA fellows from 2014 and 2015 now work at an SCEA school. The future Christian pedagogue scholarship gave me a wonderful opportunity to explore Christian formation and see it in action. SCEA is also dedicated to SCEA professors and eight SCEA professors have been supported by tabor College of Higher Education in their studies at the Master of Christ-centered Education. The MEA now sets the normal hours range – usually between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and 6 a.m., depending on the type of work.
